Preschool Graduation‏

The YMCA's Preschool is different that other preschools because they are mission driven.  We are able to reach out to families who are less fortunate and need the help through our scholarship program.  Being in a Christian atmosphere, the children learn values that help develop strong character traits that last long past their time with us.  We build bonds with not only the child but with the families.

The YMCA works with Portage Township Schools Kindergarten teachers and know what is expected when a child enters Kindergarten. We are very academically driven but also have a strong emphasis on learning through play and creativity.  Our Junior Preschool Academy is structured to build into our Pre-Kindergarten Preschool Academy.

At the Portage Township YMCA Preschool Academy every child matters to us and exhibited every day.

Register your child for the YMCA Preschool Academy 2010-2011 school year starting March 1st. To enter our Pre-K Academy children need to be 4 years old by August 1, 2010. For our Junior Academy children need to be 3 years old by August 1, 2010.

A registration form along with a $25 non-refundable registration fee will hold your spot in our fall program.

For more info contact Cathi > cathi@ymcaofportage.org or 762-9622. Stop in at our welcome center to sign up now!

Before the start of school, the student will need a program membership if they are not on a family membership. The fee is $70 for the year. This also enables students to participate in many other programs we have for children at the member rate.

New for the 2010-2011 School Year -

"4 Day a week Pre-K Class"

The Portage Preschool Academy will offer a 4 day a week class for the 4/5 year old preschool child  beginning fall of 2010. Classes will meet M - Th  9:00-11:30 OR 12:30-3:00 in classroom 3. Stay and Play: a class that will focus on motor skills, coordination and building friendship through play.

BRAND NEW SECURED CLASSROOMS (see photos below)

in the newly remodeled preschool wing of the YMCA building.

It is our goal that your child perceives school as a fun and exciting place to be. We are committed to providing your child with a positive learning experience. Our activities will help your child grow academically, physically and socially. We will focus on language arts, life skills, fine motor skills, large motor skills, and self-development.

Our nine month, semi-structured preschool serves children who are one to two years away from starting Kindergarten.

Children in Preschool Academy must be able to use the restroom independently as the staff are not allowed to enter the restroom with the children. Therefore, no diapers or pull ups are allowed and children need to wear clothes which allow them to undress and redress themselves without assistance.

The Portage Township YMCA Preschool Academy classes take several carefully planned field trips. In compliance with the YMCA of the USA's guidelines, each child must have a parent or responsible adult accompany them on field trips.

Parents will be asked to provide snacks on a rotating basis with children having birthdays being placed on the schedule first. Teachers will send home monthly notices of planned activities, field trips, parties, etc. As the children will be engaged in gym activities, outdoor play, and use of various cooking and craft materials, the need for clothing that can withstand the activities is strongly recommended.

A detailed information sheet regarding payments, dropping off, picking up, absences, health, snacks, school closings, etc. is available by request at the Welcome Canter at the main YMCA building.

*PLEASE NOTE:
Enrollment in preschool is a nine month commitment. Monthly fees are due on the 10th of the month prior to the month attending and payments can be made at the Welcome Center or mailed to the YMCA.
