PRESCHOOL FACTS |
| In the 3 and 4 year old preschool
classes the students:
learn their colors
and shapes in the first month of school
learn to recognize and count from one to ten
learn to recognize and write the upper and
lower case alphabet
do many crafts and hands on activities
learn their first and last name and phone
number
work on pre-writing and logic skills

In the 4 and 5 year old preschool
classes the students:
- learn their first and last name, phone
number, address, and birthday
- learn to read over twenty early reading words
- work on writing and math skills
- learn about community helpers
- learn to tie their shoes and zip their coats
- host a Mother’s Day Tea.
- have a graduation with caps and gowns

All the students at the Portage
Township YMCA Preschool:
- learn the days of the week and months of the
year.
- learn the importance of the four core values:
caring, honesty, respect and responsibility
- learn about cooperation and team work
- learn from their experiences on cooking, gym,
and science days
- learn from taking several field trips a year
- learn the letters in sign language when
working with the alphabet
- are community helpers - they are involved in
the mitten tree, the giving basket and Relay for Life
- learn from preschool staff who work with the
Portage Kindergarten teachers to help set the curriculum
